Bumpspark* is a new multimedia series that reimagines the
talk show. Instead of an interviewer and celebrity in a contrived
studio set, two leading intellectuals from different specializations
are brought together to speak with one another in stimulating, on-location
settings.
Recorded with the latest highly unobtrusive, High Definition digital
video and audio technology, the audience eavesdrops on unpredictable,
living, breathing conversations happening in real time.
Ideas, not celebrity. The emphasis is strictly
on the discussion, rather than on personality or promotion. There
are no pundits, flavors of the month, confessionals, book or movie
plugs. Bumpspark* requires great, curious intellects. We
don't put two fundamentalists in a ring and remove the muzzles.
We have enough of that.
Depth, not soundbites. We treat people with respect; never
reduce them to quotes. Bumpspark* is a call to the complex
and subtle voices, the aging, vanishing voices, and the voices wary
of modern media, to share their knowledge and points of view. It
is an opportunity to speak extemporaneously and reach unhurried
conclusions.
Imagination, not sterotypes. An astronaut clicks
with a comic. An artist puts a rock in the shoe of an engineer.A
composer finds a symphony within a CEO. An Islamist and an Israeli
come to an understanding. Specialists of all sorts reach new conclusions
about their passions right before our very eyes. We open people’s
minds.
Reality, not agendas. Counterparts engage one another
out in the world, in labs, studios and retreats. Guitars, easels
or Bunsen burners are at hand. Topics are spontaneous. Insatiable
curiosities forget they are on camera. The audience experiences
discovery firsthand.
Posterity, not trends. Future generations will
not have to invent what architect Frank Gehry might have said if
he met biologist Edward O. Wilson or if director Julie Taymor had
spent a day with anthropologist Jane Goodall. We're making it happen.
